What to do with your new extensions!

So you just bought your first set of 'The Extension Bar' extensions - now what?

Here are a few quick instructions to help you get started:

  1. Before you first use them, wash them! -  I know it odd to have to wash a brand new set of extensions but they style so much better after you wash them. Use a sulfate free shampoo and no conditioner if you plan to curl them. You can also hang dry them overnight to avoid extra heat exposure.
  2. Get them trimmed. - Extensions are manufactured to have a blunt cut. It's highly recommended you get them trimmed by a hairstylist so they blend beautifully with your own hair. You may not be trying to cut the length but you should trim them so they layer nicely into your own hair.
  3. Store them in a dust-free area. - Whether that means in the bag, a drawer or a box, the key word(s) in this is dust-free!
  4. Don't over wash them. - Unlike your own hair, extensions don't get the natural oils from your scalp, which means they do tend to dry out much faster. To avoid drying, don’t over washing them. If you have a lot of product build-up, they will need to be washed. If you are wearing them straight a few times, they likely don't need to be washed after each use. If you do find they are dry, do a deep condition and allow conditioner to sit on them for about 10 minutes before you wash them out.
  5. Get used to wearing them! - A lot of folks get extensions for a special occasion or to wear once in a while. Regardless of the frequency, you do want to take some time to get used to them. With extensions, especially our 220g sets, you are adding a lot of extra weight to your head that you aren't accustom to. In order to be comfortable, I highly recommend you wear them a few times so you can get a feel for them. It is totally normal for it to feel heavy but it shouldn't hurt. If you feel the extensions are pulling on your hair, it's likely that you haven't gripped enough hair to the clips.
